Does anyone out there remember 'zines? ("zeens"). Another lost art of those naughty, free and easy Clinton years. Well, one of my favorite 'zines, called
Snake Oil, was produced right here in Texas, by a friend who shares my morbid fascination with televangelists and such. So you can imagine my immense delight when I found out that it has been resurrected as an excellent Blog (and a companion YouTube channel) on the Interwebs.... There are already several great items posted, including an up-to-the-minute report on the latest dubious doings of the "completely heterosexual" gospel-grifter Ted Haggard. I think my favorite offering so far is a candid video of a very awkward encounter between a bemulleted door-to-door soul-saver
(pictured above) and a sassy, godless female with a hilariously tough London accent. Looks like the new Snake Oil has some serious ongoing entertainment potential.
I hate to admit it, but even as "old-school" as I am, the new Snake Oil with its color photos, videos, and vast multimedia potential gets even higher marks from me than the original, even though I can't physically hold it in my hands or file it on a bookshelf...
